I got some help from #ubuntu-kernel Thadeu Cascardo suggested I try
drm.debug=0x4

The crash seems to happen every time when the laptop has been off for a
while, but sometimes it doesn't if I power it down then bootup. So I
captured two logs attached, one where the system booted normally, and
one where it crashed.
