To anyone doing something about this bug, it could also be fixed by actually using the selection from the Select Audio Device dialogue and, you know, remembering it and using it. This would improve things for everyone much more than just making this singular Dell hardware problem go away. Nobody should have to use that dialogue every time they plug in the same device. Bad user experience, bad design.
