Ok, are you sure that xfdesktop is emerged with the patch applied? If so, I'd guess there is at least one file on the desktop, that wasn't there on logout and therefore the icons are reordered on login. Or somehow the icon positions are rewritten at the wrong time, whatever may trigger that. IIRC the config file with the icon positions is read repeatedly, once for each icon. So the first icon that does not have a saved position triggers a rewrite and all positions of not yet placed icons are lost and then reordered. The solution could be to read this file only once at the beginning, so a rewrite does not affect previously known positions...
