Public bug reported:

bootloader failed to install: please see the attached reports from
apport.

This is while installing ubuntu-mate-18.04 into dual boot mode with
existing xubuntu 16.04.3 installation on a separate partition. I was
trying to install from a bootable pendrive. I do not have screenshots.
The installer tried to install amd64 version of the bootloader, and
complained that the operation has failed and that without the bootloader
the system won't be able to boot. I am yet to check if the existing
system is booting. Reporting this from the live session from which I was
trying to install. I should be able to provide more/specific information
if needed.
