did some more digging, found a blacklist for nouveau on my system, which is necessary to load the switcharoo stuff. removed that, rebooted, now nouveau loads at boot and nvidia-prime claims it runs correctly, but it's still working incorrectly. I've narrowed it down though.
when nvidia-prime cats "OFF" to the switch on my system, it turns off my integrated graphics, *not* the nvidia card: 0:IGD: :Off:0000:00:02.0 1:DIS-Audio: :Pwr:0000:01:00.1 2:DIS:+:Pwr:0000:01:00.0 what I need is the following: echo IGD > /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch which then works correctly in enabling the integrated graphics and disabling the nvidia: 0:IGD:+:Pwr:0000:00:02.0 1:DIS-Audio: :Off:0000:01:00.1 2:DIS: :Off:0000:01:00.0 however, doing this post-boot doesn't seem to work either. I can start lightdm, but it just hangs, and looking at /var/log/Xorg.0.log, it's still trying to load the nouveau driver instead of the intel driver. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1776462 Title: nvidia-prime fails in "intel" mode on 18.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-prime/+bug/1776462/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
