Yes, you only purged mariadb-server package.
If you want to clean all the configuration files, I suggest you to use:
$ sudo apt-get autoremove
$ sudo dpkg -l | grep '^rc' | awk '{print $2}' | xargs dpkg --purge

There is no dependency problem. mailx is a "suggested" package and it is
provided by 2 different packages. The user can choose which one he wants to use
(mailutils or bsd-mailx).
