Issue persists in 18.04. All OS upgrades installed as of June 25, 2018. Dell XPS 13" L321X Mini Displayport -> HDMI adapter -> HDMI cable -> LG 43lx570h television.
Interestingly, I was able to get this setup to work on a different model of television, just a few days earlier.
