Hi,
the error you ran into is from your logs:
mysql_upgrade: Got error: 2002: Can't connect to local MySQL server through
socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2) while connecting to the MySQL server

That is unfortunately a known error which seems to take a while to resolve.
I'll dup your bug onto it, but for you the TL;DR is that it is evry likely to
work on a retry as it is a race to not be available fast enough on install.

postinst runs mysql_upgrade before server is properly started ( Can't
connect [...] '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock)
