OK, I've installed the packages you gave me, then I did a "dpkg- reconfigure xserver-xorg", and I restarted the computer. Thing is, when I switch to 800x600, it works fine, but when I switch to 640x480, the image gets distorted again, although it isn't moved. In that precise case, I've made a discovery: pressing the Fn-"Font" buttons on my keyboard once removes the distortion and centers the image into the middle of my laptop screen, and pressing them again finally makes 640x480 work properly.
When I tried starting up "openarena" (a 3d fps game), Xorg crashed. It's the same thing for any GLX-using app. Note that the exact same thing happened with the "original" version of xserver-xorg-core, so there really isn't any change. After, I tried "displayconfig-gtk". I selected a "Dell > 1024x768 LCD display panel", and clicked OK. After that, I rebooted (being too lazy to do "sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart"), and I was able to start openarena successfully, that is, without crashing Xorg. The distortion problem persisted for 640x480 resolutions, but at least I can temporarily fix it. I personally think it's some hardware bug somewhere within the graphics card and/or the BIOS, but if you have any other ideas just call me. The attachement is an archive of the two xorg.conf files discussed in this message. Yet again, thank you for being there. __________________ Eduard ** Attachment added: "xorg.conf.tar.gz" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/10247119/xorg.conf.tar.gz -- after upgrade to gutsy, image distorsioned on screen with resolutions lower than 1024x768 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/145403 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
