Ohmigosh!!

I believe I have solved my situation with the HP Photosmart R967!

I reread this page from the Official Ubuntu Documentation:
https://help.ubuntu.com/7.04/musicvideophotos/C/photos.html.

This part that tells you to (apparently to me) FIRST plug in the camera
is what was the problem:

Ubuntu automatically detects most digital cameras when you plug them in,
and will offer to import your photos automatically.

To import photos from your camera:

   1.

Plug-in and switch on the camera by placing it in review mode. Ubuntu
should ask you if you would like to import the photos that the camera contains.
   2.

Click on Import. You should then see a preview of the photos.

Well, BEFORE I plugged my camera onto the dock platform that has the USB
cable connection to the computer I TURNED IT ON AND THEN SET IT ON
REVIEW MODE.

Then I dropped the camera onto the dock platform and voilĂ ! I got a
window that showed my pictures to be imported! I was able to import my
camera pictures to the folder of my choice.

This appears to be the solution for me.
