Public bug reported:
I have a P4P800 based system that originally had Edgy installed from the
install CDROM. This was upgraded to Feisty and thence Gutsy. However
only the 2.6.20-16.28 kernel of the 2.6.20-16 series runs on this
machine, no other 2.6.20-16 series kernel boots. 2.6.17 series kernels
were no problem, and indeed are still no problem. The 2.6.22-14 kernel
just about boots eventually but there are large numbers of ata2 errors
-- a hallmark of why the 2.6.20-16 series kernels failed except 28.
I cannot imagine that the reason for the problem is that I have no
IDE/ATA discs, only DVD/CDROM drives -- all the discs are SCSI.
The real problem I have is that the Feisty and Gutsy Live CDs fail to
boot at all, they just drop back to Busybox.
How can I reinstall this system if the Live CDs won't boot sensibly?
Any and all constructive help gratefully received.
