Public bug reported:
The system's situation when the bug occurred.
• totem open, video paused, "always on top"
• Update Manager open, but Failed to download list of changes
• Epiphany open in the background with a google search waiting
• no internet connection
• then, I went to gnome-terminal and did a "sudo ifdown ra0 && sudo ifup
ra0" to connect to the internet again (due to another bug)
• the google search in the background failed because the interface went down
• then I clicked on Update Manager window because I wanted to see the latest
changes, hoping my connectivity bug would be changed.
• that was the last input received. I could move the mouse around, but
i didn't get any changing cursors or highlighted buttons or tooltips or
anything. I couldn't click anything. No key combinations worked. alt-
tab didn't work. ctrl-alt-backspace didn't work. Capslock didn't even
change the state of the LED on the keyboard.
• I tried using my wacom tablet. Same effect as the mouse. I tried unplugging
and replugging-in my (usb) mouse. No effect. VNC session also just mimicked
the problem remotely.
• I was able to ssh into it from another computer and kill select processes but
i couldn't figure out how to reset the X input devices....
• In the ssh session, I did: sudo invoke-rc.d gdm restart
• Lost all my open documents but I got back to the login screen with working
mouse and keyboard.
