None of the above are exactly my situation. Also, I'm a complete nooband
don't understand most of the comments I've seen on the support site. I'm
hoping for a simple step-by-step solution.

Ubuntu has installed and seem to run flawlessly as long as the
installation USB stick is plugged in, but the computer will not boot and
start Ubuntu without it.
