Public bug reported:

Running a Gateway MX8711 laptop, with a new (fresh) install of Gusty
7.10 onto a JFS partition. When I unplug the power cord (to walk
around, and laptop then runs from battery), the display flickers on /
off a few times, and then stays off so that i can't actually see what
i'm doing. Using the Fn key on the keyboard and adjusting the LCD
brightness only makes the display turn on at certain steps (on a scale
from 0 to 20, it'll turn on at brightness settings of 5, 10, 15, and 20
(counting button presses)).

In addition, toolbar along top edge doesn't seem to know much about the
battery (eg.: battery charge time unknown, time left when using battery
unknown, discharge time unknown, etc).

In Feisty 7.04, this was never a problem, and I had full brightness
control from 0 to 8 whether I was using AC power or battery power, and
full battery info when disconnected from AC power.

I'd be more than happy to give you more details - tell me what you need,
or if you want me to run a certain script to test stuff out!
