You can generate Ubuntu 18.04 packages following instructions here: https://github.com/hughsie/fwupd/tree/master/contrib If it persists, can you please: 1) Modify the fwupd.service systemd unit to add "-v" to ExecStart 2) Power off your machine and power it back on.
