Ah - I suspected something of the sort. Because the 'entire disc' is a 32GB SSD (eMMC?), I used the partitioner to define /home on a separate 128GB MicroSD card, splitting my install onto two drives. I am not satisfied with the result - LibreOffice Writer will not launch. But I don't know if it's my faulty installation (currently Legacy Mode) or an inadequacy of the machine. My only use case is mobile documentation, Writer is the one piece I need to work. I have installed but not yet tested some other word processing applications. I will try again (probably with Lubuntu instead of Ubuntu Mate, in case it's a resources issue), and see if I can figure out how to partition in GPT. The UEFI boot is much faster; Windows10 is much faster, which just can't be right! Thanks.

This will be done for you if you choose the "use > entire disk" guided install option. > > ** Changed in: grub-installer (Ubuntu) > Status: New => Invalid > > -- > You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug > report. > https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1782045 > > Title: > install failed - Lenovo 120S-11IAP > > Status in grub-installer package in Ubuntu: > Invalid > > Bug description: > failed to create GRUB > > ProblemType: Bug > DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 > Package: ubiquity 18.04.14 [modified: lib/partman/automatically_ > partition/question] > ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-20.21-generic 4.15.17 > Uname: Linux 4.15.0-20-generic x86_64 > ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7 > Architecture: amd64 > CasperVersion: 1.394 > Date: Mon Jul 16 16:01:58 2018 > InstallCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/casper/vmlinuz > file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu-mate.seed > boot=casper quiet splash --- > LiveMediaBuild: Ubuntu-MATE 18.04 LTS "Bionic Beaver" - Release amd64 > (20180426) > SourcePackage: grub-installer > UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) > > To manage notifications about this bug go to: > https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub-installer/ > +bug/1782045/+subscriptions > -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1782045 Title: install failed - Lenovo 120S-11IAP To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub-installer/+bug/1782045/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
