Noticed some errors were being shown as coming from ftp.hk.debian.org, so tried an unconventional experiment of setting up VPN to a HongKong server, selecting ro-mirrors.evowise.com/ubuntu ftp.hk.debian.org/debian as the best mirror for my new location and attempting cache update from there. Cache updating completed slowly but although there were one or two "network isn't available" notes, most packages achieved 100% after about an hour of downloading. Experiment didn't work though; At the end of the updating, I got the same window saying "Failed to download repository information - - Check your Internet connection" Now removing that VPN connection and restoring "Download from" to Main server.
