On my Acer Aspire ES-512 suspend as well as hibernate freeze the kubuntu 18.04 that I installed the day before yesterday on a 18G deleted partition.
The latest kernel where suspend and hibernate work is 3.17, which however has problems with touchpad. That is, I use 3.16.57. From 3.18 and all later kernels suspend and hibernate do not work. It does not help that I change /etc/default/grup adding RESUME=UUID=<uuid of swap> or nouveau.modeset=0 to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX. Nor does it help that I enable hibernate in /var/lib/polkit-1/localauthority/10-vendor.d/com.ubuntu.desktop.pkla. Feng's fixed kernel did not work either (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1774950/comments/61). If anyone want additional information, just let me know.
