This was my first idea too. I did the following: Download Ubuntu 18.04 - error as described.
So I found this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1771059 and downloaded the daily ISO with the same error. Then i found Ubuntu 18.04.01 with the same error. So I verified the ISO as described on the Ubuntu page. After that I check the MD5 sums on the USB stick to verify the USB-Stick is not the issue. Same Problem / Error. After a BIOS update and changing the partitions from SWAP, EXT4 -> EXT4, SWAP (so EXT4 root partition is on sectors with lower number on the SDD) the installation went fine. So I assume it was either the BIOS update OR a bad sector on the SSD.
