Still hitting this using MATE and the NVIDIA Drivers:

calvinh@calvinh-ws:/var/log$ uname -a
Linux calvinh-ws 4.15.0-34-generic #37~16.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Tue Aug 28 10:44:06
UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

calvinh@calvinh-ws:/var/log$ sudo apt-get install nvidia-384

nvidia-384 is already the newest version (384.130-0ubuntu0.16.04.1).

Cannot plug in my second monitor, it locks the system up until I unplug
it.
