Something in the updates made it work for me. On the latest series of updates I've noticed kernel update to 4.18.0.9.10 and gave it a try. I still observe in dmesg diagnostics dump about "Bad or missing usercopy whitelist? Kernel memory exposure attempt..." but I am able to start session with nvidia driver up and running.
