Public bug reported:

I have a 2006 vintage Mac-Pro 1,1. The audio has worked fine from 12.04
through 18.04, but upon upgrade to 18.10 it no longer functions at all.
The kernel seems to detect the hadware okay:

hwinfo --sound

  Vendor: pci 0x8086 "Intel Corporation"
Device: pci 0x269a "631xESB/632xESB High Definition Audio Controller"

  Driver: "snd_hda_intel"

  Driver Info #0:
    Driver Status: snd_hda_intel is active
    Driver Activation Cmd: "modprobe snd_hda_intel"
  Config Status: cfg=new, avail=yes, need=no, active=unknown

But there is no sound output, pavucontrol does not show ANY hardware to
configure. I have
purged and reinstalled both pulseaudio and alsa to noavail, I"ve force reloaded
alsa, I've restarted pulseaudio. Nothing makes the hardware show up in
pavucontrol and there is no audio output.
