Those are from Putty's keygen. They're harmless on every OS (Dapper, Solaris, Suse, HP/UX, AIX, and even VMS) and every version of OpenSSH. But yes, I have tried without the keys (mv .ssh .ssh.save) and it hangs. This is either an OpenSSL, LibC or kernel problem, because building Dapper's OpenSSH (4.3p2) on Gutsy changes nothing. It's a weird bug.
