I went back and followed the steps from the compiz website on nvidia,
specifically by adding the lines so my xorg.conf now looks like:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Generic Video Card"
Driver "nvidia"
Busid "PCI:1:0:0"
Option "AddARGBVisuals" "True"
Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True"
Option "NoLogo" "True"
Option "RenderAccel" "true"
Option "AllowGLXWithComposite" "true"
Option "DisableGLXRootClipping" "true"
EndSection
I quickly cycled through using alt-tab, a couple of times, and it seems
to be fixed. If anything changes, I will update my post.
