Calamares comes with a desktop file, which isn't easily overridden without potentially affecting everyone installing Calamares. We provide our own Lubuntu specific desktop file, which is not part of the calamares package, to allow for Lubuntu-specific branding. So it is what it is. But there's only one icon on the Desktop. There's no real expectation that a user would be searching through the menus to do their install.
