Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools
I used System->Administration->Users and Groups (from the gnome Ubuntu
toolbar) to add a user. It overwrote my /etc/group file, which I had to
replace from the rescue disk to get anything to work. In the attached
file, the last group is the name of the new user account (the old user
account did not appear at all in the new /etc/group file)
