Based on that workaround, I have added
Section "Files"
ModulePath "/usr/lib/nvidia-340/xorg"
ModulePath "/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/nvidia/xorg"
ModulePath "/usr/lib/xorg/modules"
EndSection
to the xorg.conf and it's working!
