Disco is on 6.6 now, so this is presumed fixed in Disco. If you need a fix for the bug in previous versions of Ubuntu, then the relevant procedure is documented here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates However, I'm not sure this bug would qualify under that policy, since this sounds like essentially a feature request for smartmontools to handle hotplug.
