I havn't had this error again since I reported it, but what your saying makes sense. I'm pretty sure my screen was turned off as well and I have a AMD RX580, and had to reboot a bunch of times when the system locks up (not sure how related but hasnt happened in a while).
I tried turning on my computer with the screen off.
