Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-driver-nv

Using a default xorg.conf (as re-generated by dpkg-reconfigure -phigh
xserver-xorg) results in the X-server starting fine (according to
/var/log/Xorg.0.log), but nothing being displayed on the monitors (one
goes black, saying "out of range", the other displays weird patterns).

This is not fixed, even by forcing
        Option "HorizSync" "60"
        Option "VertRefresh" "75"

However, it works fine using the vesa or nvidia(*) driver.

I'm using a fully-updated install of Gutsy, on Intel-64, with a GeForce
7600 GT card. I have 2 LCD monitors, both capable of 1600x1200, one on
DVI, the other is connected via VGA. The Mandriva 2008 LiveCD works
fine, so it's not a hardware issue.

(*)the one from nvidia.com, not the Ubuntu package, which is also
broken.

** Affects: xserver-xorg-driver-nv (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
