I've been using ubuntu since its first version and I've put up with some
unfortunate decisions through all those releases because trade-offs
always seemed to be worth it, and not once I've been tempted to be rude
to ubuntu developers.

That changed today when I finally decided to investigate what was in
that ~/snap folder and why it was constantly reappearing in my home
folder and I found this bug report. I get that you made some wrong
assumptions and now it's hard to change the initial design, but I just
don't get how you can openly talk down to seriously frustrated users and
downplay the issue for more than two years.

Anyway... for those of you wondering how to get rid of these folders,
just remove snap:

sudo apt-get remove --purge snapd gnome-software-plugin-snap

If you're on a fresh ubuntu 18.10 install, you might want to install the
non-snap versions of the couple of system apps that were installed by
default using snap:

sudo apt-get install gnome-system-monitor gnome-calculator
