There are more problems with the 6.4.0 package from Ubuntu 18.04. The color maps have no color.
To reproduce, install ncl and then try one of the examples of maps that have colors: wget https://www.ncl.ucar.edu/Applications/Scripts/maponly_6.ncl ncl maponly_6.ncl Take a look at the png file (it only has color in the lower section/bar, where it should have color in the map itself. wget https://www.ncl.ucar.edu/Applications/Scripts/maponly_16.ncl ncl maponly_16.ncl Take a look at the three new maps, they do not have color.
