So I don't know exactly how to precisely describe this in terms of
packages being impacted so I'll just start by describing the behavior
I'm seeing.
I'm on Ubuntu 18.10 patched as of 2018 Dec. 21. I have the nvidia
packages that are available through the standard Additional drivers
section installed (not sure if that's a factor).
What I'm seeing is after moving my mouse after black screen is all of my
applications are visible just as they were prior to the monitor turning
off; however, the applications cannot be interacted with. I would
instead expect that once I wake the screen back up I would see the login
/ switch user account screen. If I hit Windows + L to force-lock the
screen I then get the login screen and can then unlock and use the
computer as usual. This is an annoyance more than something critical as
far as I can tell.
I suppose there is some security risk in that someone could walk away
from their computer, another individual could wake the system by
jiggling the mouse and observe what's open -- thus exposing information
that one may expect to be hidden after a period of inactivity.
As far as settings go, I have:
Automatic Screen Lock -- Enabled
Lock Screen after blank for -- Screen Turns Off
Show Notifications -- Enabled
