The indicator-applet-complete applet in gnome-panel is missing all of
its indicators (except network) when using xmonad, but not when using
any other gnome-flashback session (ie metacity/compiz).

This appears to be because in Zesty you need to launch your session with
  /usr/lib/gnome-session/run-systemd-session gnome-session-
flashback.target (instead of just gnome-flashback-xmonad), otherwise
  indicator services are not started.

  eg:
  /usr/share/xsession/gnome-flashback-xmonad.desktop
  -Exec=gnome-flashback-xmonad
  +Exec=/usr/lib/gnome-session/run-systemd-session
gnome-session-flashback.target
