it is the post-installation script that always returns 1, after throwing
errors about unsafe symlinks encountered in /var/log/journal/. but there
are no symlinks at all. Seems it is the systemd-tmpfiles --create call
that throws this errors.

Unfortunately this leavea you with an inconsistent system in the middle
of an release upgrade and no way out of this mess. So please set the
importance to severe!

Btw, my system was a fully updated 16.04 with hwe/i386 that is now
broken an the half way to 18.04.
