I did interpret "I have disabled Ubuntu from requiring my password after
the screen turns off" as automatic login/no password. Maybe that's
incorrect.

So a few questions:

1. Does your login have a password and/or is it configured for automatic
login?

2. Is the dock ("taskbar") visible on the "landing page"?

3. Does re-locking (Super+L) and re-unlocking the system get around the
problem?

4. Please run 'apport-collect 1809517' to send us more information about
the system.
