Binary package hint: gnome-control-center
Changing the setting in the Visual Effects tab takes effect immediately.
This causes the screen to jump, windows to refresh and so on.
This is quite disconcerting.
I don't have the GNOME HIG to hand, but it might be that this is the
sort of change it recommends as needing an 'Apply' button.
