As a new user, it is the third time I have installed and uninstalled
Ubuntu from my system. That is fine - got used to doing that with
Windows because of their inherent security breach. I was using the
synaptic package manager to install anything interesting to check it
out. The issue came about because I suddenly found firestarter
supposedly blocking bittorrent even though I was not downloading
anything. There was some package that was supposed to permit anonymous
surfing, so I got rid of that and then looked at orphaned packages and
found some '/libs'? /of some Tex package I installed AcuTex I think. I
marked that for complete removal and then I ended up in that mess. I
reformatted the disk and will reinstall and anyway won't experiment for
sometime. The thing is that one needs to read the manual apparently
there are no shortcuts to that may do that or not. Not even sure whether
this helps in anyway. But, one question please can somebody tell me how
do I knoe firestarter is working if there is no icon visible!
Apologies for what might sound gibberish to you out there - my willing
to experiment is but an attempt at acknowledging the good work from all
of you.
Thanks
