I guess you have the stock r73 driver installed, that included with the kernel, correct? Can you install again the rutilt version in -proposed (its version 0.15-0ubuntu5.1) and check what happens when you:
1. Scan and then connect 2. Create a new profile and then apply it The version in -proposed also includes a fix which is currently applied in the hardy version, to improve the reliability with the legacy driver.
