Well I just downgraded to Feisty and I don't have the problem. One thing I just realized though, the rtl-wifi drivers that are now included in gutsy were not included in feisty, and have to be manually installed. Perhaps this is the root of the problem, a new version of the rtl-wifi drivers that is.
