I can confirm that the patched package works fine!
I just tested two packages:
1) 1.34.0-0ubuntu8.8 (neg. test)
still hangs
2) 1.34.0-0ubuntu8.9 (PPA)
now works like expected !
$ apt-cache policy s390-tools
