The target releases for the backports are qemu 2.11 and 2.12 The second suggested patch [1] does not make sense/apply there.
The feature it tries to "not migrate" was only added in qemu 3.0 itself via [2] and therefore should be no problem between xenial (2.5) and Bionic/cosmci (2.11/2.12) While preparing and building for the test PPAs I'll just skip this patch and apply only the other two. Let me know if you think or request otherwise (but then we'd need to pull [2] as well I guess).
