Hello Joshua, different tools will handle passwords differently.
Backslashes in particular may be funny. It's better to generate
passwords with an algorithm that outputs enough characters from a more
restricted character set to provide the security level you want.

  installer setup encryption phrase is accepted with lesser characters
  upon install when bootup, only a certain combination of characters in
  the password, i assume... make it do this, or maybe i've factored the
  prime result of RSA or rubberbanding passwd- in the cloud for
  >INTERPOL?
