The best solution here is a proper fix by Ghostscript's upstream developers. For the case that this fix will not appear soon, the workaround would be to patch CUPS to supply RIP_MAX_CACHE=0 instead of RIP_MAX_CACHE=128m, so that Ghostscript decides on cache sizes by itself.
