I'm glad you found a solution (and now have a bigger screen :-) ) and
hope you're enjoying Gutsy.
would it still be possible for you to test with the old display and the
workaround suggested in bug#132716 (Option LVDSBiosNativeMode) ?
if that would work than I can set this bug as a duplicate of that one
otherwise I'll need to set the bug as invalid or try to get more
information about the problem you had with the old display
