I also have problem using auctex in Gutsy. However the sympton is
different.
1. Open a LaTeX document in emacs22 or emacs-snapshot with auctex
installed in ubuntu gutsy.
2. Try to insert an environment. Either using C-c C-e or the menu LaTeX
-> Insert Environment.
No error message, but I get some messed up text like this:
\item
\end{itemize}\begin{itemize}
emacs21 works fine though.
