Hrm with the latter is still crashes later on with a double free. I wonder if we'd want a much higher lock that any of such paths would have to take. Maybe a virObjectLock on the stream or so? I'd leave that open for discussion as I'd be just doing trial and error which doesn't seem right. I hope to find some more time the next days to look deeper into this ...
