I found this bug report (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/159045)
about the Toshiba Satellite U300 with no sound on Gutsy for AMD64. I
have the same problem with the i386 version and the steps in this link

it because I'm not on Gutsy for AMD64).
