Some questions, because I cannot reproduce such a bug with Ubuntu 7.10
and all updates (tried several times).
1. Which Ubuntu/Firefox versions do you run?
2. Any extensions/addons installed? Did you try to disable them all if you have
some?
3. You say you cannot type in the address bar or any other place, but where is
the cursor at this stage?
4. Have you got a special start respectively home page? Maybe try with
"about:blank".
5. Have you got compiz or beryl enabled?
