Our systems are stable with later kernels:
uname -a
Linux xxxxxx-lubuntu 4.15.0-47-generic #50~16.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Fri Mar 15
16:06:21 UTC 2019 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
At home (were I have virtualbox) I switched to Oracle package to solve
the problem and I didn't revert my installation to the 16.04 package:
dpkg -l | grep virtualbox
ii virtualbox-5.2 5.2.28-130011~Ubuntu~xenial
amd64 Oracle VM VirtualBox
